As we continue to highlight our staff during our 50th Anniversary celebrations, this month we shine a light on Mark McCallum, our Operations Group Manager. As he has been with the company now for 12 and a half years we caught up with him to take a look at his role and the interesting hobbies he has outside of work.
My day to day involves managing/conducting final test, customer support, installations and service work for our spectroscopy products. I have a team of nine wonderful Product Engineers, Technicians & Managers who help support our worldwide customer base. Normally I have up to four engineers travelling worldwide at any given time, but COVID-19 restrictions have curtailed our travel over the past 12 months, so it’s been nice to have the resource and team in the office.
I enjoy the culture, friendliness and openness of working at Edinburgh Instruments. The products and our customers are a pleasure to work with and our products are most often used to do good. Our customers research cancer, energy consumption, modern materials, green technologies and life sciences which makes me very happy.
I spend all of my spare time with my family and children and doing things outdoors. I enjoy triathlons, running, cycling, camping as well as relaxing listening to music or reading a book.
Something most people don’t know about me is that I am a beekeeper and have 4 hives. I make honey for my friends and family and enjoy helping the environment. I can also run 5km in under 19m (on a good day)!
Relaxing with my family.
I’d like to help contribute towards the continued growth of the business and market as well as make things easier for us to achieve our goals at Edinburgh Instruments. I’d like to visit key customers and try to keep all of our customers happy – those are the most important things. On a personal level I’d like to get back to watching live music and travelling to the sunshine with my family and eating nice foreign food.
