Here at Edinburgh Instruments, we are proud of all our employees for all they do behind the scenes, so we thought it was time to put them in the spotlight. This series does exactly that; you get a sneak peek into what drives, excites and enamours our team. We hope you enjoy it!
Meet Nikesh Patel, an Application Scientist here at Edinburgh Instruments. Application Scientists are like a bridge between the company and our clients. They conduct research, tests and samples using our products to share the best way to use them for real-world applications.
Originally from Dudley, I had graduated Sheffield Hallam with a BSc Chemistry, before undertaking a few years working within biotechnology industry. During my time in industry, I discovered my passion for using nanotechnology for the detections of biomolecule disease states leading to me accepting a PhD position at the University of Strathclyde. My PhD focused on merging Surface-Enhanced Raman scattering with magnetic particles in the detection of biomolecules. After completing this I worked as a Post Doctoral researcher continuing work in bacteria detections using magnetic bioassays. I joined Edinburgh Instruments in the Summer of 2024 as a Raman Applications Scientist.
I like to go to the gym to unwind and enjoy listening to vinyls to explore new music. At the weekends I like to venture to new places in the city. As someone who enjoys landscape photography, I like to go to tick off places around Scotland and capture the beautiful scenery!
New Zealand! I would love to see the scenery and escape the modern world!
