FLIM and Beyond: A Multimodal Approach to Confocal Spectroscopy

Discover the next generation of multimodal imaging in this in‑depth webinar presented as part of the BioPhotonics Fluorescence Microscopy Summit 2026. Join Dr. Iona Hill of Edinburgh Instruments as she explores how fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) can be seamlessly integrated into advanced confocal Raman systems to unlock deeper insight into biological and materials samples.
Date: March 11, 2026
Time: 1:30pm GMT

What You’ll Learn

FLIM is a powerful technique for mapping variations in fluorescence lifetime—independent of fluorophore concentration and highly sensitive to microenvironmental changes. In this session, you’ll discover how combining FLIM with complementary modalities such as:

  • Spectral photoluminescence (PL) imaging
  • Raman microscopy
  • Second harmonic generation (SHG)
  • Two‑photon excited fluorescence (2PEF)
  • Phosphorescence lifetime imaging

creates rich, multimodal datasets that capture structural, chemical, electronic, and dynamic information—all within a single instrument. The webinar also highlights optical and detection strategies enabling pulsed and continuous‑wave excitation, time‑resolved photon counting, and spectrally resolved detection.

Why Attend?

  • Learn how multimodal workflows enhance imaging contrast and sample compatibility.
  • Understand practical instrumentation design considerations.
  • See real biological examples showcasing the value of integrating spectroscopic techniques.

About the Speaker

Dr. Iona Hill earned her PhD from the University of Strathclyde, specializing in optical medical imaging and Raman spectroscopy for cancer treatment response. She later continued this work at UTHealth Houston before joining Edinburgh Instruments as an Applications Scientist in 2024, supporting global researchers in multimodal microscopy and spectroscopic imaging.

Spectroscopy in Action: Measuring Scintillation: Optimise Your Radioluminescent Materials.

Join Dr Maria Tesa and Dr Tommy Loan for our first webinar of this year,  Measuring Scintillation: Optimise Your Radioluminescent Materials.

Scintillators play a critical role in airport baggage screening, medical imaging, and particle physics research by converting high-energy radiation into detectable light. Designing efficient, high-performance scintillators depends on a deep understanding of scintillation and radioluminescence (how materials emit UV or visible light when excited by X-rays).

In this webinar, Maria and Tommy will introduce the fundamentals of scintillators and explore how scintillation underpins their real-world applications. You will learn how to characterise radioluminescence in scintillating materials, from spectral analysis to advanced time-resolved measurements. We will walk through the required instrumentation and show how to interpret experimental results using practical, real-world examples.

What you will learn:

  • What scintillators are, and how scintillation enables radiation detection
  • The physical mechanisms behind scintillation and radioluminescence
  • Instrumentation used to measure radioluminescence in scintillators
  • How to perform and analyse spectral and time-resolved radioluminescence measurements
